His writing was beautiful, elegant, clear-cut, almost business-like – and we are certainly not referring to his handwriting or how he held his pen! We are talking about artificial intelligence. At this year’s Trieste Next a text will be produced as if it were written by the great Central European writer himself… imagining what went on in his head. Come be part of this amazing interactive experiment from 27 to 29 September at the #AItaloSvevo workshop (where AI stands for Artificial Intelligence). Artificial intelligence and Svevo’s writing will be combined in a Natural Language Processing workshop of automated text generation. This is based on deep learning methods that teach machines to write a letter using the vocabulary, syntax and most common topics the author of Zeno’s Conscience used. Bring out the Svevo in you! The machine will do the job, but you can contribute with your creativity!

This initiative was created thanks to the Department of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Trieste in collaboration with the Interdepartmental Centre for Science and Digital Technologies, Informatics and Computational Science (STeDIC), the Municipality of Trieste, Biblioteca Hortis, the Svevo Museum, Machine Learning Lab, the graduate degree course in Data Science and Scientific Computing and the Department of Law, Language, Interpretation and Translation.

Trieste is the city of literature, but also the city of science, and it’s wonderful that these two worlds have finally come together. #AItaloSvevo is a project linked to Trieste Creative City and part of LETS Digit which sees cutting-edge information technology at the service of literature, putting not only artificial intelligence, but whole hearts into the project to involve a growing number of people and spread literature.
