“A pair of well-made gloves”

Anita Pittoni, paper model, 1946
In the winter of 1946, Anita Pittoni designed and knitted a pair of red and brown woollen gloves for the poet Umberto Saba and had them delivered to his home in Milan

Saba’s note of thanks to Anita Pittoni, Milan, 27th November 1946
“My dear Anita, I would have written to you earlier to thank you for the gloves, but I did not know your address. The gloves fit me like a dream. And I love well-made things, which are – as you know – extremely rare in the world. A pair of well-made gloves – that is, made with love – moves me as much as a poem or a short story. Bravo Anita! You are such a good artisan. I hope to be in Trieste two or three days before Christmas. I will be very happy to see you again, and Giani too. A hug from your Saba”.
