City of science

A ‘system of excellence’ has repeatedly been defined as the one that has led to Trieste being defined as the ‘City of Science’: a network of study centres, institutes and laboratories that distinguish themselves internationally in research and innovation activities as well as in the training of scientists from all over the world. 

A long journey born from the efforts of Nobel Prize winners Abdus Salam and Paolo Budinich who, in 1964, obtained recognition from the world’s most important bodies as the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP).
