Between 1933 and 1936, architect Camillo Iona designed the Mercato Coperto (Covered Market) commissioned by English benefactress Sara Davis to provide a roof for the ‘venderigole’, in Trieste dialect the women who offered their products on the public street.
The rationalist style of the building is a highly innovative and experimental element for the time. The interiors are inspired by the salons of the ‘Victoria’, the ship exemplifying advanced design that Lloyd Triestino had launched in 1931.
